The 3 Best Places for Red Wing Hiking

1. Barn Bluff Trail Head

Barn Bluff is a steady and challenging climb, but the unforgettable view from the top of the bluff is completely worth it. There are four major trails, but the South Trail is the most direct way to the summit. When you reach the top of the 340-foot bluff, you’ll marvel at the vista of the Mississippi River as far as the eye can see.

View the trail map before you start your climb to get your bearings. Don’t forget to stay on the marked trails to ensure your safety!

2. Memorial Park

Memorial Park is another great destination if you’re seeking a hike with a rewarding view. Inside the park, Sorin’s Bluff is a fantastic spot to admire the scenery for those who aren’t avid hikers as well. Hike the less strenuous trails or hop in the car and drive to the overlook. If you’re visiting during the summertime, consider booking your spot on a guided hike with a Park Naturalist.

3. Frontenac State Park

Just a 10-minute drive outside of Red Wing, Frontenac State Park offers wonderful fall colors, great birding opportunities, and vibrant wildflower from spring through fall. See it all up close when you hike on the park’s best trails. The trails at Frontenac State Park vary in difficulty, so you’ll be able to admire the picturesque views no matter your fitness level.
