This week, Ryan Sullivan!
Although he has been singing like an angel and playing guitar for close to 30 years, Ryan’s path to professional musicianship has been anything but linear or traditional. With his career aspirations thwarted by PTSD and its associated loss of self, Ryan medically retired from his job as a Police Officer in late 2020. Ryan began the arduous task of working to reclaim his sense of value and inner-worth, his ability to love himself and therefore, to feel and receive the love of others closest to him, most notably that of his wife and three young children. In 2021 Ryan underwent a routine knee surgery which was complicated by a persistent MRSA infection and septic arthritis, requiring numerous hospitalizations staged surgeries over the course of 2 years, that resulted in loss of native knee and left femoral nerve paralysis.
Being laid up for years and becoming permanently disabled did not help with Ryan’s endeavor to reclaim his lost sense of worth or purpose. It did, however, help with his guitar chops. A LOT. If only there were a way to turn his passion for music performance into a career….In 2024 The Limb Lab in Rochester, MN helped Ryan obtain an orthotic brace called Icarus Hercules (powerful name, right?) which is helping him resume some of his old mischievous ways. Ryan is just getting this thang’ moving again, join along for the ride!
