3 Things to Do on a Minneapolis to Red Wing Drive

1. Discover Summit Avenue in Saint Paul

Summit Avenue is just 15 minutes outside of Minneapolis, and it’s a wonderful first stop on your mini road trip. Follow I-94 East until you reach the Lexington Parkway exit for the quickest route. This avenue is the longest street of Victorian homes in the country, featuring historic homes, synagogues, churches, and schools dating back to the early 1850s. Hop out of the car and stroll along this four-and-a-half-mile display of breathtaking architecture. With 373 of the original 440 mansions remaining, there’s no shortage of grand sights to see on this unforgettable walking tour.

2. Visit Downtown Hastings, MN

It only takes half an hour to get to Hastings, Minnesota. You’ll take I-94 East to US-61 until you reach 3rd St W in Hastings. We recommend stretching your legs and walking around Main Street. Hastings is home to excellent antique emporiums, and it’s a great spot to pick up a unique souvenir of your trip. If you’re in town during lunchtime, enjoy a meal at Hastings American Legion. This riverside eatery serves every delicious dish with a side of a Mississippi River view.

3. Have an Outdoor Adventure at Welch Village

On the outskirts of Red Wing, just another half hour from Hastings, you’ll find Welch Village. Take Co Rd 91 and MN-316 S to County 7 Blvd to reach this ski resort. Welch Village is known for its top-notch skiing and snowboarding terrain. You can even enjoy live music, craft brews, and food every Saturday in the winter at 4 p.m. at Jaxx Bar and Grill.

Are you traveling in the summer? From mid-June through the end of September, the village transforms into a downhill mountain bike park. Get ready for an epic downhill race, no matter the season!
